Noleen Reed - Potter

History

I was introduced to clay initially when I was 12, under the inspiring tuition of Rosemay Lapping-Sellars.

I studied fine art in Grahamstown at Rhodes University. 1999 took me to Wales in the UK, where I had my proper introduction to ceramics as an adult. I studied at the Royal Forest of Dean College in Coleford, England. Afterwards, set up a pottery workshop in the Welsh countryside.

I worked there alongside other crafts people, learning a variety of other skills other than ceramics. I focused predominantly on making smoke fired, sculptural pieces that all had their origin on the wheel.

In October 2004, I left the UK and spent a year travelling to different countries, until I finally returned to South Africa in November 2005, ready to begin again with a new line of work.
